Museum Kaap Skil design by OPERA Amsterdam
For the Museum Kaap Skil on Texel we produced the new permanent exhibition. We transformed old steel frames and glass cases to new furniture, used sea poles from Zeeland as wall cladding and made a round bench in the shape of a compass.
Client: Museum Kaap Skil
Stichting Texels Museum
Design: OPERA Amsterdam
A highlight of the exhibition is a big showcase piece in the shape of southern Europe. This is where the visitor can discover the origins of what has been found at the bottom of the North Sea. The construction is a plywood-rib structure covered with bendable ply. Quite the puzzle in our wood workshop!
A special part of the exhibition is a scale model of a 17th century sail boat: Within two months model maker Marc Visser brought the daily life aboard to life. We’re amazed by the dedication and love that was put into the model and are happy to share some of the process. Everything is made by hand, that you can tell!
